Weather caused one postponement while several area high school wrestling and basketball programs as well as Wayne State College basketball teams were in action on Dec. 6.
The Wayne High at Ponca basketball doubleheader has been rescheduled to Monday, Dec. 22.
Winside girls and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys wrestling traveled to Creighton; Winside and Tri County Northeast boys wrestling competed in Plainview; LCC girls and boys basketball visited West Holt; Wakefield girls and boys basketball competed at Howells-Dodge (Dodge) while Wakefield boys wrestling competed at the Howells-Dodge Invite (Howells). Both Wayne State College women's and men's basketball visited Southwest Minnesota State.
From the Creighton Wrestling Invite, the LCC girls finished fifth (49) while the Winside girls took eighth (32) among the 11 teams. The LCC boys totaled 53 points to place sixth in the boys division among the nine teams.
LCC medals were posted by Darly Garcia-Perez (155) capturing silver, Justice Olson (130) earning bronze, Tae Settje (120) followed in fourth, Grace Galvin (145) placed fifth as Ava Christiansen (125) finished sixth.
Top medalists for the Winside girls came from Avery Brummels (105) earning silver, Maci Schmidt (135) took third, Aspen Sellin (155) finished fifth and Raylyn Behmer (120) placed sixth.
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys were led by Jake Lipp (190) capturing a silver medal, Weston Patefield (144) placed fourth, Alex Allison (175) and James Recob (285) both took fifth, Jayson Wayman (175) took sixth and Aiden Heydon (157) finished eighth.
The LCC girls (Elkhorn Valley at 10 a.m.) and boys (Stanton at 9:30 a.m.) wrestling teams will travel separate ways on Dec. 13.
The Winside girls wrestling team will next join their boys program on Dec. 13 at the North Bend Central Invite starting at 9 a.m.
During the Plainview Duals, the Winside boys finished fifth while the Tri County Northeast boys followed in sixth among the seven teams.
For Winside, the Wildcats began with a 61-14 loss to Doniphan-Trumbull, followed with a 49-15 loss to Pender, lost 54-18 to Plainview, won 36-24 over Tri County Northeast, lost 65-6 to Central Valley and won 36-21 over Axtell.
Stratton Sellin (165/175) led Winside with a 5-1 record including a win by tech fall (16-1) along with four wins by forfeit. Asher Uttecht (150/157) went 4-2 (wins by decision of 12-6/11-6, one pin in 3:13 and one forfeit) while Landon Carlson (157/165) also went 4-2 (wins by pin in 3:35, 3:35, 1:27 and 2:46).
For TCNE, the Wolfpack started with a 66-6 loss to Plainview, followed by a 55-6 loss to Central Valley, won 30-29 over Axtell, lost 66-15 to Doniphan-Trumbull, lost 36-24 to Winside and lost 48-23 to Pender.
The Allen/Emerson-Hubbard co-op were led by Nate Franzluebbers (285) who went 4-2 (all wins by forfeit) while Logan Kraemer (165) also went 4-2 (wins by pin in 0:50, 12-6 decision and two by forfeit).
The Winside boys wrestling team will next join their girls team at the North Bend Invite on Dec. 13 at 9 a.m. (girls competing as well).
The Tri County Northeast boys wrestling team will next join their girls program during the North Bend Invite on Dec. 13 at 9:30 a.m. The Wolfpack girls will open their season on Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. during the West Holt Invite.
From Atkinson, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls lost 62-52 while the LCC boys won 61-42 at West Holt.
The LCC girls (0-2) and boys (1-1) will next host Homer on Dec. 9 starting at 4:30 p.m. for JV action.
From Dodge, the Wakefield girls lost 73-20 while the Trojan boys suffered a 79-48 decision at Howells-Dodge.
The Wakefield girls (0-2) and boys (0-2) will next visit Wayne on Dec. 9. Girls JV (two quarters) will be played at the elementary school with boys JV (four quarters) at the Jr/Sr High School followed by girls varsity and boys varsity on a rolling schedule.
From Howells, the Wakefield boys wrestling team finished ninth with 44.5 points among 20 teams.
Top Trojan medalists were posted by Ruben Vega (175) with a silver medal, Baldwin Garcia (106) followed in third, Israel Garcia (126) and Lane Fischer (144) both placed fourth, Hayden McAfee (120) took sixth and Arnulfo Barboza (285) closed with a 13th place finish.
The Wakefield boys wrestling team will next travel to Homer joining their girls team for a road dual starting at 6 p.m. Trojan girls host NEN (Wisner-Pilger/Pender) for a home dual on Dec. 8 at 4:30 p.m.
From Marshall, MN, the Wayne State College men were outscored by 22 points in the second half and suffered a 75-71 loss while the WSC women lost 84-58 at Southwest Minnesota State.
The Wildcat men (5-4/1-2 NSIC) and women (6-3/1-2 NSIC) will next visit Minnesota State-Mankato on Dec. 11 (5:30/7:30 p.m.) and St. Cloud State on Dec. 13 (2/4 p.m.). Men's games will be played first.
