Blue Devil girls win Lincoln Lutheran Invite, boys place fourth

A third high school cross country race was held over the past week for Wayne High during the Lincoln Lutheran Invite on Oct. 2.

From Pioneers Park, the Wayne High girls team won their six-team division with 27 points (Lincoln Christian in second with 36 pts.) while the Blue Devils boys took fourth (of 10 teams) with 66 points.

In the girls division, freshman Tayla Hurner captured silver in 20:57.63, followed by fellow freshman Elizabeth Hix in 11th (23:35.23) and senior Lilyan Hurner closed out with a 15th place medal (24:17.53).

Other Blue Devil varsity times came from sophomore Mariana Nexticapan Hernandez (18th - 24:40.37), senior Kennasyn Blecke (20th - 25:10.05) and senior Josie Ley (21st - 25:17.82).

Sophomore Sage Holtmeier from Tri County won the girls varsity 5k in a time of 20:36.69 among the 39 runners. There were an additional 32 JV runners.

In the JV division, the Wayne girls were led by sophomore Karla Wynia took 23rd (29:50.93), sophomore Hannah Brogren finished 26th (30:11.87) and senior Sharon Vasquez (32nd - 36:52.21).

During the boys division, junior Emmanuel Gonzalez earned an 11th place medal in a time of 18:29.41 followed by fellow junior Camden Hall (12th - 18:30.59). 

Other Blue Devil varsity results came from junior Landen Claussen (18th - 19:10.01), junior Alvaro Archundia (26th - 19:55.23), junior Thomas Raymundo (32nd - 20:19.96) and sophomore Grady Maas (47th - 21:27.07).

Tri County held off Cornerstone Christian (27-41) in the boys team race. Junior Sammy Holsing from Tri County won the boys varsity 5k race in a time of 17:14.01 among the 66 runners. There were an additional 82 JV runners.

In the JV division, Wayne finished runner-up with 30 points.

Freshman Colston Starzl won the JV race in a time of 19:17.41 which was the fourth-fastest among all Wayne male times. He was followed by an 11th place finish from junior Gabriel Armstrong in 20:01.06 (sixth-fastest).

Other JV results came from senior Boden Dobbins (15th - 20:39.45), junior Lance Brink (18th - 20:55.24), freshman Daniel Kuchta (24th - 21:42.26), freshman Gerson Torrez (27th - 21:59.66), senior Aidan Bohnert (31st - 22:19.91), freshman Jacob Fehringer (32nd - 22:32.99), junior Julian Garcia (36th - 22:50.61), freshman Clifton Kaup (38th - 22:56.7), sophomore Ethan Samuelson (44th - 23:36.8), freshman Isaiah Zarate (47th - 23:58.21), sophomore Hudson Rubendall (48th - 23:59.31), freshman Dreu Jensen (49th - 24:08.88), senior Jaxon Lindner (51st - 24:25.25), freshman Max Brink (55th - 25:33.27), junior Cale Eischeid (56th - 25:36.96), junior Bryan Hernandez (73rd - 28:51.43) and sophomore Hugo Reyes (82nd - 36:28.99).

The Wayne High cross country program will next run on Tuesday, Oct. 7 for the seventh and eighth graders during the Pierce Junior High Invite. Race action will open at 7:15 p.m. from the Pierce Community Golf Course.

Blue Devil JV and varsity runners will return on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 4:'30 p.m. during the Mid State Conference races at the O'Neill Golf Course.
