Blue Devils drop third straight, Endicott and Patefield connect late

A second straight undefeated team stood in front of Wayne High  entering week six  of the high school football season on Oct. 3.

From Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College, the Blue Devils fell behind early and suffered a 55-7 loss.

Wayne High has now dropped three straight falling to 1-5. The Vikings are now 6-0.

Lakeview jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead followed by a 20-0 second quarter to lead 41-0 at half. The Vikings scored their final 14 points in the third quarter while Wayne High put their lone points (seven) on the board in the fourth thanks to a 73-yard connection between sophomore quarterback Easton Endicott and senior wide receiver Parker Patefield.

Endicott finished 7-19 for 87 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. 

Senior Taven Ocampo led the rushing attack with 64 yards on 15 carries (long of 15).

Parker Patefield hauled in two catches for 82 yards with one touchdown.

Other catches came from senior Jace Jorgensen (five yards), junior Chase Nelson (three yards) as senior Brodey Munter totaled three receptions (minus three yards).

Taven Ocampo posted a team-high nine tackles (seven solo) with two tackles for loss while Parker Patefield added seven tackles (four solo). 

Junior Waylon Huff (four solo) tallied five tackles as senior Carter Wiese recorded a tackle for loss among his four solo stops. 

Up next for Wayne High will be Pierce (4-2) on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. during the final regular season home game for the Blue Devils with three games remaining (at Schuyler Oct. 17; at Scotus in Columbus on Oct. 24).
