After joining the Mid State Conference last year, Ponca was the host site on Oct. 2 for the Mid State Conference girls golf outing showcasing Wayne High.
From Highlands Oaks Golf Course in Ponca, the Blue Devil girls finished third (eight teams) and shot a 398.
Head Wayne girls golf coach Josh Johnson said, "the course was not long but was extremely hilly and the greens proved to be challenging."
Battle Creek was crowned Mid State Conference champion with a 391 just ahead of Boone Central's 395 in runner-up among the six teams.
A trio of Blue Devil girls golfers earned a conference medal being Hallie Heithold in second (91), Carli Canham took eighth (94) and Rylynn Owen placed 10th (96).
Other scores for Wayne were Claire Reinke (117), Avery Gubbels (145) and Damaris Reyes (160).
Coach Johnson added, "I was extremely proud of how the girls battled the hills and heat. Ponca's course, Highlands Oaks, can get you quick if you are not precise and the girls battled all the way to the end. We have stayed very consistent the last three weeks and will need that next week at Districts."
Rylee Altwine from Pierce won the 18-hole event shooting an 84 among the 44 golfers.
The Wayne High girls golf team will next host the C-3 Districts from the Wayne Country Club starting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
