Wayne High Play Production Team performs, "The Infamous Soothing System of Professor Maillard." by Raleigh Marcell, Jr. on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 8 p.m.
"This is a 30 minute one act production that packs a mighty punch!" said Director Julie Osnes.
Colby Raulston, "The Hero," decides to visit the private sanitarium operated by the renowned "Professor Maillard", played by Adian Bohnert. A grand party given by the doctor is about to begin, but what happens at the party is both comical and frightening.
The play is based on Edgar Allan Poe's 1845 short story, The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether, a dark comedy which was rare in Poe's fiction.
The play will be a trip down memory lane for many alumni and family, as it has been performed by Wayne High School at least three times before. Osnes said she found photos in old yearbooks from the fall of 2001, 2010, and 2015 in which the play was produced at Wayne High.
"This group of young actors is extremely talented and the judges have noticed. Our hometown team has won third place in Technical Theater, Best Hair and Make Up, 13 have received Outstanding Acting Awards. In addition, Colby Raulston was singled out as Best Overall Actor at York, Adrienne Anderson and Sophia Spieker were chosen as Best Overall Supporting Actress at York, and Sophia was awarded Best Overall Actress at Mid States Conference. The team has been chosen as Overall Champions at both York's K-Dub Festival and Mid States Conference," Osnes said.
Free will donations support the team and the Arts at Wayne High.
District Competition will be in Schuyler on Saturday, Dec. 6.
