Wayne High punches tickets for state track meet

ALBION — Wayne High will have six individuals competing in next week’s state track meet after they qualified during Tuesday’s B-4 district meet in Albion.

Elle Powicki was a district champion for the Blue Devil girls, winning the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.32. She was seeded fourth going into the finals but came through with the best time in the finals to punch her ticket to state.

Also going on the girls side is Nyla Bolles, who finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.45.

Four Blue Devils will compete in boys action next week.

Mason Ley and Grant Maas gave Wayne a 1-2 finish in the boys pole vault, each clearing 12 feet, 8 inches to earn a trip to state.

Also going to state are Drew Miller, finishing third in the 3,200 (10:41.51); and Isaiah Yarde, who tied for third in the high jump at 5-10.

Class B state track and field action is next Wednesday and Thursday at Omaha Burke.
