NSAA Fall Sports Championships are right around the corner and softball will be on the docket first where Wayne High will be on the road on Oct. 9.

From Grand Island, the Blue Devils (19-10) drew the #3 seed in the Class B-1 District Tournament.

Wayne will open with #2 Ashland-Greenwood (16-10) during game two around 11:30 a.m.

Game one will start at 10 a.m. with #4 Scottsbluff (13-13) vs. #5 Lincoln Standing Bear (15-15) with the winner to face the host and #1 Northwest (23-2) around 1 p.m. that afternoon.

The two semifinal winners (Wayne/Ashland-Greenwood and Scottsbluff or Lincoln Standing Bear/Northwest) will match-up in game four of the district final on Oct. 10. This will be a best two-of-three to advance to state.

Seven district champions will advance with one wildcat to the Class B State Championships set to begin on Oct. 15 in Hastings.

Wayne High closed out their regular season on Oct. 2 with a 3-1 loss to GACC and will enter the postseason with back-to-back losses.

Nyla Bolles produced the lone single and also scored. Courtney Roeber drove in the lone run for the Blue Devils.

Mackenzie Nissen (113 pitches) suffered the complete game loss in seven innings allowing three runs (two earned) off six hits while striking out seven batters and walking two.

Abi Toline from GACC recorded 14 strikeouts. The Bluejays are now 17-12 entering their Class C-9 Subdistrict Tournament being hosted by Auburn which will be played on Tuesday.

Head Wayne softball coach Rob Sweetland said defense will need to play clean in the district tournament starting with Ashland-Greenwood.

"Try to put the ball in play and see if we can keep it a close game and pull it out in the end," said Sweetland. "Then, obviously you get the beast that is Grand Island Northwest and that's really just a tall task to beat them two out of three there...#1 in B and #2 overall in the state."
