Wayne holds early lead, Pierce races away

Two weeks remain in the regular season following the final home game for Wayne High on Oct. 10.

From Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College, Wayne High football suffered a 48-26 loss to Pierce.

The Blue Devils (1-6) have now dropped four straight while the visiting Bluejays (5-2) have gone 2-2 their past four games.

Pierce scored first to lead 6-0 followed by back-to-back Wayne High touchdowns.

Senior Jace Jorgensen recorded a 60-yard kickoff return for a touchdown along with fellow senior Taven Ocampo running in from two-yards (missed PAT and failed two-point conversion).

The Blue Devils led 12-6 in the first quarter.

Pierce then scored 40 straight points with three additional first quarter touchdowns (failed two-point conversion, two made PATs) and three more second quarter touchdowns (two of three made PATs) to lead 46-12 at half.

Neither team scored in the third quarter as Wayne High closed the game on a three-yard rushing touchdown by Taven Ocampo along with a 22-yard passing score between sophomore Easton Endicott and Jorgensen (both PATs good).

Final was Pierce winning *48-26 (two points missing in stats).

For Wayne, Endicott finished 12-30 for 177 yards (long of 49) with one touchdown and one interception.

Taven Ocampo led the rushing attack with 95 yards (long of 45) on 15 carries with two touchdowns.

Jorgensen hauled in five catches for 99 yards (long of 33) with one  touchdown as fellow senior Brodey Munter added two catches for 62 yards (long of 49).

Defensive stats through Oct. 14, junior Waylon Huff recorded eight solo tackles.

Munter, senior Parker Patefield and junior William Patefield (one TFL) all had seven solo stops.

As a team, Wayne High ran 57 plays for 256 yards (177 passing, 79 rushing) compared to Pierce who finished with 65 plays for 541 yards (123 passing, 418 rushing).

Wayne High will close out the year with back-to-back road games starting at Schuyler (0-7) on Friday, Oct. 17 with kickoff at 7 p.m. The Warriors have dropped 12 straight dating back to Sept. 20, 2024. (end year at Scotus Central Catholic in Columbus on 10/24).
