A pair of doubleheaders were recently held for the Wayne Junior High girls basketball teams with a home weekend tournament canceled.
From the Wayne Elementary school, the Blue Devil seventh and eighth graders welcomed Battle Creek last Thursday and visited Norfolk Catholic on Monday.
The Wayne eighth graders suffered a 39-21 loss vs. Battle Creek and also lost 37-17 at Norfolk Catholic while the Blue Devil seventh graders won 26-25 over Battle Creek and suffered a 31-11 loss at Norfolk Catholic.
In the eighth grade outing hosting Battle Creek, Wayne leaders were Hannah Hank with six points as Elizabeth Hix and Tayla Hurner both scored five points. Other scoring came from Reagan Heithold (three) and Lainey Meyer (two).
During the eighth grade loss at Norfolk Catholic, scoring came from Heithold (eight), Hank (six) and Hurner (three).
From the seventh grade home victory over Battle Creek, Hadley Dunklau led Wayne in scoring with 11 points followed by Lorelai Sorensen with seven points. Other scoring came from Ady Hays, Penelope Zavada-Cupp and Rose Kaup (all with four points).
In the seventh grade road loss at Norfolk Catholic, scoring came from Hays (five), Sorensen (four) and Dunklau (two).
The Wayne Junior High girls basketball teams will next visit Columbus Lakeview Junior High on Thursday, Dec. 19 before concluding their season at the Norfolk Catholic Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 21. Other teams in action include Boone Central and Pierce.
Wayne Junior High boys games will first be held on Jan. 18.
