Wayne JH girls basketball wins twice on road

After taking a week off from competition, the Wayne Junior High girls basketball team was back on the court with just a handful of dates remaining on their schedule.

From Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington, the Blue Devil seventh and eighth graders competed against the HCC junior high girls on Tuesday.

The Wayne eighth graders won 34-11 while the Blue Devil seventh graders won 21-16.

In the eighth grade outing, Tayla Hurner posted a team-high 14 points while Hannah Hank followed with seven points. Other scoring came from Lilly Redden and Lainey Meyer (four points each) as Elizabeth Hix, Reagan McManigal and Reagan Heithold (all had two points).

During the seventh grade game, Rose Kaup led Wayne JH with six points. Other scoring came from Hadley Dunklau, Lorelai Sorensen and Penelope Zavada-Cupp (four points each), Adalynn Hays (two points) and Kennedy Rubendall (one point).

The Wayne Junior High girls basketball team had their Thursday, Dec. 5 games at Clarkson-Leigh canceled and will next travel to Pierce on Saturday, Dec. 7 to visit Pierce JH starting at 9:15 a.m.

Wayne Junior High boys basketball will begin their season on Jan. 18.
