Wayne joins area teams at Homer Invite

The Wayne High track and field teams made a last-second change in scheduling due to smoke that had cancelled a meet in Elkhorn, and came away with the boys team title and the girls runner-up trophy at Thursday’s Homer Invitational.
Using a true-scoring system that takes into account all the athletes competing in an event, the Wayne High boys outscored Ponca 625.5-604.5, while the Ponca girls edged Wayne 612.5-608 in the eight-team meet.
In girls action, Tarah Stegemann won the 100-meter dash and high jump, Kylie Hammer took the 200 and triple jump (improving her school record to 35 feet, 6 1/2 inches), Gabi Meyer won the 800, Marcella Jurotich won the 3,200, Jenna Trenhaile took first in the discus, Danica Schaefer won the discus,
LCC got a win in the pole vault from Bayley Holloway and won the 400-meter weight relay. For Allen, Kaylen Smith won the 100-meter hurdles and Lexi Oswald took the 1,600-meter run. Allen’s girls finished third, just three points behind Wayne, while LCC was fifth.
In boys action, Wayne got wins from Christian Rogers in the 100, Jacob Daum in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles, Grayson McBride swept the jumps and Nolan Reynolds won the pole vault.
LCC got wins from Malix Knox in the 200 and the 400-meter weight relay. Allen won with S.T. O’Keefe in the 800 and won the 1,600-meter sprint medley. LCC placed fourth out of nine teams and Allen was fifth.
