Following runner-up home tournament finishes over the weekend, the Wayne Junior High boys basketball teams added a week night home contest to their schedule.
From Wayne Elementary, the Wayne seventh and eighth graders welcomed Ponca on Tuesday.
The Wayne eighth graders suffered a 26-22 loss while the Blue Devil seventh graders fell 29-26 in overtime against the visiting Indians.
In the eighth grade loss, Wayne trailed 16-9 at halftime and cut the lead to two points late in the game on a three-pointer by Colston Starzl but Ponca iced the game at the free throw line to put the game out of reach
Starzl led the Wayne eighth graders with 12 points followed by Jacob Francis with six points as Mason Kramer tallied four points.
During the seventh grade OT loss, Wayne was getting good looks but kept getting unlucky bounces.
Mason Wendte led the Wayne seventh graders with 20 points while Louie Sieverson added six points. Despite the loss there was an excellent defensive effort by Hudson Willrich, Easton Nolte, Zaven Jurgensen and Merrick Miller.
