Wayne Junior High boys win twice at Cedar Catholic

Following back-to-back home games to open the season, the Wayne Junior High boys basketball teams took to the road Saturday morning.

From Hartington, the Blue Devil seventh and eighth graders visited Cedar Catholic.

The Wayne eighth graders won 34-27 while the Blue Devil seventh graders picked up a 36-35 victory against the host Trojans.

In the eighth grade win, the Blue Devils came out hot and built a 22-4 lead after the opening quarter. Wayne cooled off over the last three quarters but held on for the seven point victory.

Colston Starzl led Wayne with 11 points followed by Mason Kramer with eight points. Other scoring came from Liam Rockhill (six), Jacob Francis (five) as well as Remyngton Rager and Easton Gamble (two points each).

During the seventh grade victory, Mason Wendte put Wayne ahead with a last second shot. Wayne scored first and grew the lead to seven points in the third. In the last 15 seconds Cedar Catholic got a steal and layup to go up by one with their first lead of the game. After a timeout, Wendte beat his defender to score a tough two to end the game.

Louie Severson led Wayne in scoring with 16 points followed by Wendte with 10 points. Other scoring came from Hudson Willrich (six) as well as Easton Nolte and Evan Bose with (two points each).
