Wayne Junior High girls collect six gold medals, Blue Devil Junior High boys led by seventh grade gold

A total of six junior high meets will make up the Wayne Junior High track & field season this spring which began on April 10.

From Stanton, the Wayne seventh and eighth graders competed amongst seven other junior high programs during the Stanton Invite.

The Wayne eighth grade girls finished third with 102 points and seventh grade girls took third with 90 points while the Blue Devil eighth grade boys placed sixth (57.5 pts) and seventh graders took fourth with 75 points.

In the girls division, Battle Creek won both the eighth grade (156 pts) and seventh grade (132.5 pts) team standings. Archbishop Bergan was second in the eighth grade team standings (116.5) with Pierce runner-up in the seventh grade class (120). 

The Wayne Junior High girls were led by eighth grade gold medals in four events while the Blue Devil seventh graders tallied a pair of first place finishes.

WHS eighth graders were led by the 4×400 of Tayla Hurner, Elizabeth Hix, Sienna Lipp and Hannah Hank earning gold (4:53.93) along with event champions from Tayla Hurner in both the 800-meter run (2:46) and 1600-meter run (6:08.43) along with Sienna Lipp in the high jump (4′ 7″).

Seventh grader Chloe Kai tied for first in the triple jump (27′ 9″) while Wayne seventh grade took the top three spots in the 1600-meter run led by Hadley Dunklau (6:25.99).

Other eighth grade results came from runner-up finishes by Lilly Redden (2:56.85) in the 800-meter run as well as Elizabeth Hix in both the 1600-meter run (6:31) and high jump (4′ 4″).

During throwing events, Alex Ziska took third in the discus (70′) as Lauren Ekberg (sixth – 60′ 3″) and Hannah Hank (seventh – 60′ 1 1/2″) also earned points. Hannah Hank placed fourth in the shot put (23′ 10″) followed by Reagan Heithold in fifth (23′ 7″) as Alex Ziska tied for sixth (23′ 4″).

Additional points for the Wayne eighth graders came from Tayla Hurner high jump (fourth – 4′ 4″); Sienna Lipp took sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:16.78); Zoe Bolles tied for sixth in the pole vault (5′) while Reagan McManigal finished seventh in the triple jump (26′ 4 1/2″).

The 4×100 of Hannah Hank, Bryn Tiedtke, Reagan Heithold and Eva Jochum placed sixth (1:02.44). 

Other seventh grade results were posted Rose Kaup in runner-up (6:32.09) during the 1600-meter run along with third place finishes from Sarah Kuchta (6:35.15) in the 1600-meter run; Rose Kaup took third in the 800-meter run (2:55.89)

Fourth place events came from Sarah Kuchta in the 800-meter run (2:59.09); Penelope Zavada Cupp in the 100-meter dash (13.63); Addy Hayes in the high jump (4′ 4″) and Chloe Kai in the long jump (12′ 11 1/2″).

Other Wayne seventh grade team scoring came from Addy Hayes was fifth the long jump (12′ 11″); Sadi Fredrickson sixth in the high jump (4′ 2″) and Neveah Hanson in the 100-meter dash (eighth – 14.62).

During the seventh grade shot put, Vernoica Daum took sixth (20′ 4 1/2″) followed by Lucy Ocampo in seventh (18′ 10 1/2″). Ocampo also placed fifth in the discus (60′).

In relays, the Wayne seventh grade 4×400 of Chloe Kai, Addy Hayes, Sarah Kuchta and Hadley Dunklau placed second (5:00.66) and 4×100 of Neveah Hanson, Ana Antonio, Lorelai Sorenson and Penelope Zavada Cupp finished third (1:02.59).

During the boys division, Stanton (128.5) won the eighth grade team scoring over Archbishop Bergan (112) with Battle Creek (127) taking first in the boys seventh grade division ahead of Pierce (121).

The Wayne Junior High boys were led by one gold in seventh grade boys division.

Seventh grader Hudson Willrich also won the 100-meter hurdles (18.88).

The Wayne eighth graders were led by three of the top eight spots in the high jump as Colston Starzl tied for third (5′) as Logan Walling followed in fifth and Brayden Stegemann in sixth both clearing 4′ 10″.  Starzl also finished third in the triple jump (33′) with Stegemann in seventh (31′ 1 1/2″).

Jacob Fehringer took third in the 1600-meter run (5:56.77) and fourth in the 800-meter run (2:39.07) as Chase Rethwisch posted a fourth place mark in the triple jump (32′ 11″) and seventh place in the long jump (16′ 1″).

Mason Kramer tied for sixth in the pole vault (7′); Remyngton Rager collected a seventh place medal in the shot put (33′ 5″); Gerson Torres took seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (20.43); Logan Walling placed seventh in the discus (93′ 6″) followed by teammate Liam Rockhill in eighth (89′ 10″).

Brayden Stegemann finished eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:11.32) and Daniel Kuchta placed eighth in the 1600-meter run (6:19.44).

In relays, the 4×100 of Colston Starzl, Mason Kramer, Jacob Francis and Logan Walling placed fifth (54.88) as did the 4×400 of Chase Rethwisch, Chayton Wemhoff, Gerson Torres and Kash Haase (4:54.8).

Other seventh grade results came from Willrich with a second place time during the 200-meter hurdles (31.57), Louie Severson in second during the 100-meter hurdles (19.9) and third in the 200-meter hurdles (31.64).

Severson also earned a third place high jump medal (4′ 8″) as Mason Wendte tied for fourth (4′ 6″).

Benjamin Patefield finished fourth in the 1600-meter run (6:26) and fifth in the 800-meter run (2:55.98).

Avery Owen posted a fifth place time in the 100-meter hurdles (24.56) and Blake Heithold crossed the line in sixth during the 1600-meter run (6:38.26).

Evan Bose placed seventh in the 100-meter dash (13.28); Joshua Carrillo took seventh in the 200-meter dash (28.8) and Zaven Jurgensen finished eighth in the discus (67′ 9″).

In relays, the 4×100 of Evan Bose, Louie Severson, Hudson Willrich and Joshua Carrillo finished third (56.7) as did the 4×400 of Owen Avery, Benjamin Patefield, Tyler Daniels and Jaxson Pass-Dittman (5:31.83).

Next up for the Wayne Junior High track & field program will be the West Point-Beemer Junior High Invite on Thursday, April 17.
