WAHOO -- The Wayne American Legion Post 43 Juniors made a comeback late before dropping a thriller 4-3 decision in 10 innings to Plattsmouth during the final day of the Class B American Legion Juniors state tournament at Sam Crawford Field.

Wayne hit the ball hard in the early going but were limited to two hits through the first six innings and appeared resigned to defeat as Plattsmouth carried a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning.

Wayne came alive, however, scoring three times in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

Zach McManigal got the rally started when he walked and scored on a fielder's choice. With two outs in the inning, Devan Anderson blasted a double into the gap in right center to score Wyatt Heikes and Will Leseberg to tie the game at 3-3.

In the top of the eighth, Wayne made it 4-3 when Kaleb Moormeier scored on a base hit by Jase Dean and were one out away from victory when an infield error allowed Plattsmouth to tie the game and extend it another inning.

Wayne had a runner in scoring position in both the ninth and 10th innings, but were unable to bring anything home. Finally, in the bottom of the 10th, Plattsmouth got a game-winning single to claim the win and end Wayne's 27-2 season.

Anderson was the loser in relief of Moormeier, who pitched 6 1/3 innings. Anderson, McManigal and Gavin Redden each had two hits for Wayne, who outhit Plattsmouth 9-5.
