NEBRASKA CITY – The Wayne American Legion Juniors saw their season come to an end Sunday with a 9-0 loss to Alliance in an elimination game at the Class B American Legion Juniors state tournament at Clemmy Holmes Field.

Alliance got a run in the first and broke the game open with three in the third and two more in the fourth. Wayne had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the first, but could not figure out the pitching of Alliance’s J.J. Garza, who fanned 11 Wayne batters and limited them to four hits.

Wayne got hits from Josh Lutt, Jacob Kneifl, Jacob Sherman and Tyler Gilliland. Lutt threw 3 2/3 innings and took the loss for Wayne, which ended the season with a 17-13 record.
