Wayne netters fourth at Seward tourney

The Wayne High volleyball team traveled to Seward and came away with a fourth-place finish in the eight-team tournament.

In pool play, the Blue Devils beat South Sioux City (25-14, 25-7) and host Seward (25-18, 25-16) after opening pool play with a 25-16, 25-17 loss to Lincoln Lutheran.

Against the Warriors, Lauren Pick had six kills, Rubie Klausen added three and Frankie Klausen recorded two. Kiara Krusemark had 11 assists. Emily Armstrong had two ace serves. Hailey Backer led the defense with eight digs, Sydney Redden added seven and Krusemark, Pick and Frankie Klausen each had four.

In the win over SSC, Pick had eight kills, Mikaela McManigal added six and Krusemark had four to go with 16 assists. Erin O’Reilly had five ace serves. Backer and Redden each had seven digs and Armstrong added five.

Leading the way past Seward were Pick with 12 kills, Armstrong with eight and McManigal with four. Krusemark had 23 assists. Defensively, Backer had 13 digs, Redden had 10, Pick and Krusemark each had eight and Armstrong had seven.

In the third-place match, Wayne lost to Wahoo, 25-19, 25-17. Pick had 13 kills, Armstrong added three and Rubie Klausen had two. Krusemark had 15 assists. Pick and Krusemark each had two ace serves. On defense, Backer had eight digs, Redden added six, Armstrong and Pick each had five and Frankie Klausen had four.

Wayne, 12-3, hosts Norfolk Catholic on Tuesday.
