On Monday, April 17 the Wayne Police Department received information from Iowa Probation of a probationer believed to be in Wayne.

The subject had a felony assault arrest warrant issued from the State of Maryland. Iowa Probation was able to track the person with ankle monitoring at locations in Wayne and relayed that information to the Wayne Police Department.

The last location received from the monitor was near the 200 block of West Second Street. The subject was not located in public view at the locations given. Phone calls to local businesses in that area revealed the male subject was inside an establishment.

A perimeter was set up around the area with cooperative efforts from the Wayne Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.

A short time later a male matching the description given was observed exiting a business and was stopped and arrested without incident.

Derrick Coley, 27, address listed as transient, was arrested for the Montgomery County, Maryland, warrant for second degree assault charges with nationwide extradition. Coley was transported to a jail facility to be held for Maryland authorities.
