Wayne Police Department warns of scam in the area

Posted

Officers from the Wayne Police Department are reporting calls of scam circulating in the area.

According to Officer Chris Peterson, "I have gotten a few different people come in or call into the police department today to report the same scam."

The details of the scam are as follows:

1. The caller states they are US Marshall or US Customs and Border agent and asks for confirmation as to who they are talking to.

2. The caller states they have flagged a package in the name of the person they are calling coming from Mexico into the United States.

3. The caller tells the individual their local address and asks them to confirm past addresses they have lived at.

4. If the caller is asked to verify themselves, they give a Badge number and a name and tell the individual to google them to verify.

5. If the caller questions the validity, they transfer the individual to another caller who is more aggressive over the phone.

6. The caller will ask for bank account information and social security information.

"These details have been consistent thus far with the calls that have been received and are a scam," Officer Peterson said.

Anyone with additional questions, or who has received these types of calls  is asked to contact the Wayne Police Department at (402) 375-2626.
