Wayne Post 43 league, Field of Dreams recap

Posted

A Senior runner-up and Junior fourth place finish closed out the Ralph Bishop League Tournament while Wayne's Senior squad took part in history at the 'Field of Dreams'.

The busy week began with what was scheduled to be back-to-back nights of wooden bat games for Rolling Hills Supply Wayne Post 43 in Dyersville, IA but darkness and weather limited the game action to one outing on July 1.

Post 43 suffered a 16-3 loss against Dakota Valley during an eight-inning contest on July 1 before their July 2 game with Post 184 Senior Railers from Wisconsin was called off due to weather.

Coach Robbie Gamble highlighted the scenic road that leads you into the 'Field of Dreams' and what he witnessed.

"The first thing you see is the professional field," said Gamble. "Then you come around and just like in the movie, you turn and go up the road and the house and the barn and the field, everything is right in front of you. Once we parked, I looked over onto the field and 3-4 of our guys were already suited up and they were out there playing catch. It looked just like the movie when the ghosts were out on the field."

Wayne will be invited back in 2027 to the 'Field of Dreams'.

The Wayne Srs and Wisconsin team will be in search of one more team to join them and work on finding an open date next summer.

Back in RBL action on July 3 during the North Division finals in Hartington, #2 Wayne Srs shutout #1 Hartington 10-0 while #6 Wayne Jrs dropped a 3-0 decision at #1 Hartington.

North vs. South RBL finals and consolation games were held in Arlington on July 5.

The Wayne Srs suffered a 4-1 loss to #2 Pender dropping to then 16-4 on the season as the Wayne Jrs lost 11-0 to #1 West Point falling to then 12-7 overall.
