A second home Mid State Conference regular season match-up showcased Wayne High basketball.
From the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, WHS entertained Cedar Catholic from Hartington on Friday.
The Wayne High girls won 41-30 while the Blue Devil boys picked up a 55-38 victory against the visiting Trojans.
In the girls game, Cedar Catholic held the early 11-6 lead as Wayne answered with an 8-4 second quarter. The visiting Trojans led 15-14 at the break. The Blue Devils then won the third quarter, 9-4 and fourth 18-11. Final favored Wayne winning 41-30 to improve to 9-9 snapping a two-game losing streak as Cedar Catholic fell to 9-6 dropping back-to-back.
Wayne leaders were junior Haley Kramer with 19 points (11 in fourth) on three made three’s followed by sophomore Addison Frank with seven points (5-6 FT).
Other scoring came from sophomore Mallory Redden with five points, junior Elle Powicki tallied four points, junior Reagan McGuire tacked on three points, freshman Audrey Lutter scored two points as sophomore Alexis Legler finished with a point.
The Blue Devils went 12-20 from the foul line.
Cedar Catholic was led in scoring by Anisten Wortmann with 10 points as Katelyn Arens followed with eight points.
During the boys outing, Wayne jumped out front early thanks to a 17-8 first quarter and added to their lead with a 15-5 second to go up 32-13 at the break. The Blue Devils extended their lead with an 11-9 third quarter as Cedar Catholic won the fourth, 16-12. Final favored Wayne High winning 55-38 to win back-to-back now sitting at 15-2 as the Trojans fell to 10-5 having a three-game winning streak snapped.
Wayne leaders were senior Colson Nelsen with 19 points on five made three’s, senior Gavin Redden added 11 points as senior Kaden Keller followed with 10 points.
Other scoring came from junior Jace Jorgensen with nine points, sophomore Jaxson Kneifl tallied three points, junior Brodey Munter tacked on two points as junior Drew Reinhardt scored a point.
The Blue Devils finished 5-8 from the foul line.
