Andrea Torres earned an eighth-place medal to highlight the Wayne cross country team’s efforts at the Pius Invitational on Thursday in Lincoln.
Torres finished the 5,000-meter race in 21:31.80 and was the lone top 10 finisher among Wayne runners. Gabi Meyer followed her home in 24th place in 23:30.60.
Other runners for the Wayne girls included Emily Chamberlain (36th, 25:09.60), Molly Hoskins (37th, 25:28.80), Sarah Greenwald (38th, 25:33.30) and Madison Jenkins (43rd, 31:06.30). The girls finished seventh as a team with 143 points.
In boys action, Christopher Woerdemann was the first runner home for Wayne, taking 34th in 19:34.80, while Brandon Wacker was 48th in 21:04.30. Treyton Blecke (54th, 23:17.00), Cole Hobza (55th, 23:34.00) and Liam Spieker (56th, 23:52.80) also finished for the Wayne boys, who placed eighth.
Wayne will host its Wayne Invitational on Monday at 4 p.m. at Wayne Country Club.
