For the fourth time this season, Hank Overin Field featured Class C NSAA high school baseball.
Wayne entertained Mount Michael Benedictine on Tuesday opening three straight home games in a span of four days.
A top of the seventh run gave Mount Michael Benedictine a 2-1 victory to improve to 4-6 as Wayne High fell to 7-5.
Earlier this season Wayne hosted Adams Central on March 21 (originally scheduled at Hastings), entertained Arlington on March 24 (originally scheduled at Arlington) and welcomed Thurston-Cuming County (Pender/Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur Northeast) on March 27 (first scheduled home game of season). The Blue Devils also hosted Class A South Sioux City and Class B Crete on April 3 at Wayne State College (original triangular moved from Hank).
The host Blue Devils began by scoring their lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Alex Rodriguez drove in sophomore Adrian Contreras.
Following a scoreless second, Mount Michael Benedictine answered with a single run in the top of the third to tie the game up at 1-1.
Neither team scored the next three innings until the Knights scored once more in the top of the seventh.
Final favored Mount Michael Benedictine winning 2-1 despite Wayne outhitting the Knights, 5-4. Wayne committed two errors compared to zero by their opponent.
Sophomore Jaxson Kneifl singled and doubled while Alex Rodriguez singled and drove in a run. Adrian Contreras scored.
Other singles were posted by seniors Gavin Redden and Calvin Ankeny.
Kneifl (38 pitches) suffered the loss in the final three innings allowing an earned run off three hits while walking three batters. Junior Gavin Anderson (47) started four innings allowing an earned run off one hit while walking four batters and hitting one.
