PIERCE — The Summer of 2023 came to an end for the Wayne American Legion Post 43 Seniors Tuesday night.

Wayne’s bats couldn’t get anything going for a second straight night as they were eliminated by Wahoo State Bank Post 82 in a 7-0 decision in the Class B American Legion Seniors state tournament, bringing their 25-10 campaign to a close.

Wahoo got all they would need in the first inning with one run after a walk, a stolen base and an RBI single, then added two more in the second with two RBI hits to make it 3-0.

They chased starter Wyatt Heikes in the sixth with four more runs and shut down Wayne’s offense to move on to Wednesday’s semifinal against Springfield, who defeated undefeated Plattsmouth to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament.

Wyatt Heikes had a leadoff single in the second inning and James Dorcey added a single to start the fifth inning to account for the only hits of the night for Wayne. Gavin Redden, Kaleb Mooremeier and Ryan Karsky all drew walks.
