Wayne secures 10th win on season

A neutral field was the host site for Wayne High baseball to open the week.

From York, two Class C teams were showcased of Wayne as the visiting team against Holdrege on Monday.

A pair of three-run innings led the charge for Wayne High picking up an 11-4 victory to improve to 10-5 and extend their winning streak to three. The Dusters, listed as the home team, dropped their second straight falling to 3-6.

Neither team scored in the first inning until Wayne High brought in three runs during the top of the second inning. Sophomore Chase Sturm started with a RBI double driving in senior Alex Rodriguez, junior Parker Patefield added a RBI groundout scoring junior Drew Reinhardt and junior Brodey Munter added a RBI base hit allowing Sturm to cross the plate.

Holdrege would answer with a single run in the bottom of the second.

The Blue Devils then tallied one run in the top of the third. Senior Calvin Ankeny recorded a RBI groundout scoring senior Gavin Redden.

The Dusters would keep it close with two more runs a half of an inning later trailing 4-3.

Following a scoreless fourth, WHS posted a second three-run inning this time in the fifth to go up 7-3. Reinhardt drove in Rodriguez, Parker Patefield reached on an error allowing Reinhardt to score as Sturm scored off an error by the Holdrege catcher.

Holdrege scored once more in the home half of the fifth.

The Blue Devils scored four additional insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Parker Patefield began with a RBI base hit driving in Reinhardt, sophomore Adrian Contreras reached on an error scoring Sophomore Chase Nelson, sophomore Jaxson Kneifl added a sac-fly RBI with Parker Patefield crossing the plate and Redden closed the game with a RBI groundout driving in Munter.

Final favored Wayne winning 11-4 while outhitting Holdrege, 12-7. Wayne committed three errors compared to eight by the Dusters.

Chase Sturm singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; Gavin Redden singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored; Drew Reinhardt singled twice, drove in a run and scored three times as Brodey Munter singled twice, drove in a run and scored. Alex Rodriguez also doubled and scored twice.

Parker Patefield singled, drove in two runs and scored; Jaxson Kneifl and Calvin Ankeny both singled and drove in a run; Adrian Contreras accounted for a RBI as Chase Nelson scored.

Junior Brodrick Tiedtke (88 pitches) picked up the win in five innings allowing four runs (two earned) off seven hits while striking out and walking two batters each. Junior Gavin Anderson (28) worked the final two innings striking out four batters.
