The Wayne High girls golf team traveled to O'Neill Thursday for the O'Neill Invitational.
The girls battled the heat and humidity on their first trip onto the course. The Lady Blue Devils worked through the first round to begin to knock some of the rust off.
The girls battled the ups and downs and fought their way to a fifth place finish shooting a 439.
Senior Carli Canham led Wayne with a 96 and a fourth place medal followed by senior Hallie Heithold with a 100 at seventh place.
Senior Rylynn Owen played well with a 113 (t-23rd) and senior Claire Reinke shot a personal best 131 to round out the Blue Devil scoring.
The Lady Blue Devils will host two events next week (Tuesday, August 26 triangular with LCC and Cedar Catholic at 4 p.m./Friday, August 29 Wayne Invitational at 9 a.m.).
"I was extremely happy with how the girls came out and fought through the heat," said coach Josh Johnson. "It got to pretty rough in the afternoon but the girls got it done. We are still working our way into "tourney mode," but we will get there."
