ALBION — The Wayne High track and field team combined for 13 qualifiers for the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships with their efforts in the B-4 District meet Thursday at Albion.

Wayne had five champions on the day, led by senior Kylie Hammer, who won two events and qualified in two more.

Hammer is among the leaders in Class B in the long jump and leads the state in the triple jump, and she qualified in both events with wins, going 17 feet, 9 1/4 inches in the long jump and 36-8 3/4 in the triple jump. She also earned spots in the state meet in the sprints, finishing second in the 200 and third in the 100.

Gabi Meyer qualified in two events for the Wayne girls. Meyer qualified individually in the 800-meter run with a third-place finish, and helped lead the 3,200-meter relay team to victory, as she was joined by Frankie Klausen, Andrea Torres and Molly Hoskins.

Cody Rogers was also a double winner for the Blue Devil boys, as he and Mason Lee both qualified in the long jump and triple jump.

The Blue Devil duo went 1-2 in the long jump, both jumping 21-6 with Rogers winning the tie-breaker. Rogers went 42-6 3/4 to win the triple jump, while Lee finished third at 41-5 3/4.

Also going to the state meet are seniors Jenna Trenhaile and Jack Evetovich and junior Masyn Dorey. Trenhaile finished fifth in the discus, but her throw of 117-7 passed the minimum automatic qualifying standard to secure her trip to state. Evetovich finished second in the boys high jump, and Dorey was third in the girls pole vault to earn trips to state.

The Wayne girls finished third in the district team race, finishing six points behind runner-up Columbus Scotus. The Wayne boys were fifth, placing three points behind host Boone Central/Newman Grove.
