Wayne Seniors advance to Area final, Wakefield finishes 1-2

Class B and C Senior American Legion Baseball Area Tournament action took over the final weekend in July.

From O'Neill, Rolling Hills Supply Wayne Post 43 competed in the Class B Area 5 tourney while  Wakefield Post 81 hosted the Class C Area 2 tourney.

In O'Neill,  #2 Wayne first secured an 8-0 win in six innings over #7 Pierce on July 24 followed by a 10-9 win against #3 West Point the following day.

Wayne then suffered an 8-7 loss in nine innings against #1 Central City on July 26 before surviving elimination with a 10-1 victory over the host #4 O'Neill in five innings on July 27. 

Post 43 (now  23-6) secured their spot in either the National (Central City) or American (Springfield) Division Senior Tourney (begins August 1) but will first seek a Class B Area 5 Senior title needing to win twice against Central City. Championship Tuesday will begin at 4 p.m.


From Wakefield, #4 Post 81 first won 15-0 in four innings against #5 Tekamah-Herman on July 24 before dropping a 3-1 outing the next night against #1 Hartington.

Wakefield then suffered a 10-2 loss in five innings to #2 Pender on July 26 to end their season at 8-12.

Pender won 9-0 in five innings over #3 Friend on July 27.

The Class C Area 2 final will begin at 6 p.m. in Wakefield between #1 Hartington (has qualified for state) and #2 Pender. Pender would need to win twice to be crowned Area champion. Pender will be hosting the Class C Senior State Tourney beginning on August 1.
