With eight games remaining on the regular season for the Wayne High baseball team, the first of six this week started with a Class B opponent.
From Springfield, the Class C Blue Devils visited Platteview on Monday.
Hits were limited for Wayne High during a 4-0 shutout loss against the Trojans. The Blue Devils have now dropped back-to-back falling to 12-7 as Platteview improved to 8-8 snapping a two-game losing streak.
Runs were posted early by the host Trojans with one in the bottom of the first and two more runs in the second inning to lead 3-0.
Following three straight scoreless innings, Platteview added an insurance run in the home half of the sixth.
Final favored the Trojans winning 4-0 and outhitting Wayne, 5-3. Platteview didn’t commit an error compared to two by the Blue Devils.
Sophomore Adrian Contreras, senior Gavin Redden and junior Drew Reinhardt all singled.
Redden (82 pitches) suffered the complete game loss in six innings allowing four runs (two earned) off five hits while striking out three batters and walking one.
