The Wayne High softball team will be the No. 4 seed and face No. 5 seed Hastings in the opening round of the Class B division of the Nebraska State Softball Championships at the Smith Softball Complex in Hastings.
The 30-3 Blue Devils, winners of 25 straight games and B-4 district champions, will play the 28-7 Tigers, winners of the B-5 district in a 9 a.m. game on Wednesday. The winner will face either top-seeded Omaha Skutt or Seward in a 4:30 p.m. game that same day, while the loser will play at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
The other first-round matchups include No. 3 Crete against No. 6 Omaha Gross and No. 2 Beatrice against No. 7 Norris. The tournament continues through Friday's championship round.
