Wayne softball takes home victory

Ahead of weekend competition, the Wayne High softball team was back on their home diamond with South Sioux City in action.

From the Wayne Softball Complex on September 4, the Blue Devils used eight runs late to win 12-2 in four innings.

The Blue Devils improved to then 6-2.

Kinnley McGuire singled, doubled and scored as Mackenzie Nissen doubled and drove in three runs.

Lilly Johnson (single and RBI), Reagan McGuire (single) and Jordyn Gamble all scored twice as Lily Gubbels (single and run scored) added three RBI.

Nissen (27 pitches) picked up the win in two innings allowing four hits. Gamble (33) worked two innings allowing two runs off one hit while striking out and walking two batters each.

During the NFCA Kaiti Williams Memorial Leadoff Classic in Papillion, Wayne High went 1-3 over the weekend.

The Blue Devils lost 14-3 against Millard North (eventual champion) and won 6-3 over Fossil Ridge (CO) on September 5.

On September 6, Wayne was back in Papillion and dropped 12-0 games to Elkhorn South and Papillion-LaVista South.

Wayne High softball also won 4-2 on September 9 in Wayne against Lakeview (Columbus) and now sits 8-5 on the season.
