Wayne speakers earn honors at state competition

History was made for the Wayne High Speech team during this year's state speech competition held at Horizon Middle School in Kearney on March 28.

The Wayne Speakers can boast of two 2026 NSAA Class B State Champions:  Sophia Spieker in Entertainment; and the Duet Acting team of Colby Raulston and Aidan Bohnert.

Two of Wayne’s events netted State Runner-Up honors:  Colby Raulston in Program Oral Interpretation; and the Oral Interpretation of Drama Team of Aidan Bohnert, Gabriel Armstrong, Johen Piper, Gavin Anderson, and Colby Raulston.  These were the two first-ever state runners-up in program history.

By medaling in three events, Wayne’s Colby Raulston finished in a four-way tie for second in the Individual Sweepstakes, the school’s first-ever medalist of any type in this category. Raulston was the first Blue Devil ever to win three State Speech medals in 2025 and repeated the feat this year.

In the team sweepstakes, Wayne finished third behind Class B Runner-Up Omaha Skutt and Champion York.
