Wayne speech students bring home medals from state meet

Wayne High School Speech team members brought home first place medals in two events and two other medals during last week's competition.

Aidan Bohnert and Alec Schaffer earned first place in Duet Acting and Parker Kesting took top honors in Extemporaneous Speaking.

A fourth place medal was awarded to Sophia Spiker in Entertainment and Colby Raulston earned a fifth place medal in Program Oral Interpretation.

Other state competitors included Colby Raulston and Madalyn Franta in Duet Acting; Madalyn Franta in Entertainment; Parker Kesting in Informative; Alec Schaffer in Oral Interpretation of Humorous Prose; Ceilus Ibarra in Oral Interpretation of Poetry; Ava Elliot in Persuasive Speaking; the Oral Interpretation of Drama teams of Aidan Bohnert, Johen Piper, Gabriel Armstrong, Gavin Anderson and Colby Raulston as well as Josie Ley, Adreinne Anderson, Grace Junck, Kennasyn Blecke and Norah Armstrong.

The speech team finished in sixth place overall with 66 points.

"This day ended the most successful season in program history.  We've never had so many State Speech qualifiers, events, or medalists as a school before this year.  Two state-champion events just finished off an epic day.  The entire city of Wayne should be proud of these kids," said Head Coach Dwaine Spieker.
