Wayne State baseball sweeps Concordia-St. Paul, four with three hits

Sunday afternoon baseball closed out a three-game home series for Wayne State College.

Back at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex, WSC and Concordia-St. Paul competed in the scheduled nine-inning outing.

The host Wildcats took control early and picked up a 13-3 victory to win their third straight. Wayne State College improved to 20-14 (16-9 NSIC) as the Golden Bears fell to 15-20 (11-14 NSIC).

During the lone outing, WSC started with two runs in the home half of the first inning. Senior Chase Douglas tripled driving in redshirt junior Cam Madsen before scoring on a throwing error.

Wayne State College followed with two more runs in the second. Sophomore Brayden Chaney recorded a two-run homerun scoring junior Braden Cannon.

A single run put WSC ahead 5-0 through three innings where Cannon reached on a fielding error scoring senior Kaden Young.

The host Wildcats then doubled their lead with a five-run fourth. Douglas started by driving in Chaney, sophomore Max Heard followed with a RBI ground out scoring Madsen, senior Taylor Gill added a RBI base hit scoring Douglas, Cannon reached on a fielder’s choice allowing Gill to cross the plate as junior Casey Prychak closed with a RBI base hit scoring Young.

Concordia-St. Paul produced their lone three runs in the top of the fifth.

Wayne State College answered with two runs a half of an inning later. Heard recorded a sac-fly RBI scoring Douglas along with a solo homerun from Gill.

Following back-to-back scoreless innings, WSC plated one more run in the eighth thanks to Chaney driving in Cannon.

Final in eight innings by run rule favored Wayne State College winning 13-3 while outhitting CSP, 17-7. WSC committed one error compared to four errors by the Golden Bears.

Brayden Chaney recorded a two-run homerun, singled twice, drove in three total runs and scored twice; Chase Douglas tripled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored three runs; Taylor Gill added a solo homerun, singled twice, drove in two total runs and scored twice as Cam Madsen singled twice, doubled and scored two runs. Kaden Young also doubled and scored twice.

Senior Quinn McCafferty singled twice; Braden Cannon singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Casey Prychak singled and drove in a run as Max Heard accounted for two RBI.

Junior Adam Eggert (39 pitches) picked up the win in an inning of relief allowing three runs (two earned) off two hits while striking out two batters and walking two.

Senior Tyson Romero (83) started the opening four scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out six batters, walking three and hitting two. Wayne native and senior Jacob Kneifl (31) worked two innings allowing one hit while striking out one batter and hitting one. Senior Kadyn Van Hill (17) closed out the final inning allowing two hits.
