Wayne State beach volleyball secures 4-1 victories against Benedictine University, finish 7-1 in Arizona

One doubleheader remained on the Wayne State College beach volleyball schedule during their Arizona Spring Break trip.

From Gene Autry Park in Mesa, Arizona, WSC was in action against Benedictine University Mesa to conclude their spring break trip in Arizona on Tuesday.

Wayne State College won a pair of 4-1 matches to now sit 9-2 overall. The Wildcats have won six straight and finished 7-1 in Arizona.

In the first victory, one match went three sets with Wayne State’s #2 pairing of Chloe Hanel and Channatee Robles coming from behind to post a 18-21, 21-11, 15-9 victory.

In the 3s match, Brooklyn Kusler and Molly Romano earned a 21-6, 21-14 win, the #4 pairing of Reese Johnson and Ella Myler collected a 21-13, 21-13 win while the team of Brooke Peltz and Rhianna Wilhelm won the 5s match 21-15, 21-11.

Wayne State also picked up an exhibition win as Laney Kathol and Anna Borner recorded a 21-15, 21-11 win.

During the second win, two of the six matches went all three sets where the Wildcat exhibition duo of Laney Kathol and Anna Borrner won 21-18, 14-21, 15-11 while the Wildcat #1 pairing of Ava Spies and Taylor Bunjer suffered a 12-21, 21-19, 10-15 loss.

All other matches resulted in sweeps for Wayne State as the 2s team of Chloe Hanel and Channatee Robles won 21-10, 21-12.  The #3 pairing of Brooklyn Kusler and Molly Romano won in straight sets 21-7, 21-12, the 4s team of Reese Johnson and Ella Myler captured a 21-10, 21-17 win while the 5s duo of Brooke Peltz and Rhianna Wilhelm picked up a 21-15, 21-16 victory for the Wildcats.

The previously scheduled Wednesday doubleheader against Justice University (AZ) was called off.

The Wayne State College beach volleyball team will next travel to Ottawa, Kansas to face Park University (MO) and Ottawa (KS) on Tuesday, March 18 during a triangular at 1/3 p.m. WSC is also scheduled to host Ottawa on Saturday, April 5 pending weather in Wayne before competing in the AVCA Small College Beach Championships in Gulf Shores, AL April 17 – 19.
