A pair of Challenge Rounds matches closed out the second day of the 2025 AVACA Small College Beach Volleyball Championships for Wayne State College.
Back in Gulf Shores, Alabama, the Wildcats competed against Palm Beach Atlantic (FL) and Carson-Newman of Tennessee on Friday.
WSC suffered 3-0 losses against both Palm Beach Atlantic followed by Carson-Newman. The #12 seeded Wildcats drop to 14-5 on the year.
In the loss against Palm Beach Atlantic, the Wildcat #1 pairing of junior Taylor Bunjer and freshman Ava Spies lost in straight sets by scores of 21-10 and 21-12. The 3’s pairing of senior Brooklyn Kusler and sophomore Molly Romano were defeated 21-8, 21-11 while the #4 duo of freshman Reese Johnson and sophomore Ella Myler fell 21-14, 21-14.
During the loss against Carson-Newman of Tennessee, the 1’s match featuring Wayne State’s Taylor Bunjer and Ava Spies went extra points in the first set with the ‘Cats falling 24-22 followed by a 21-14 setback in the second.
The #5 senior pairing of Brooke Peltz and Rhianna Wilhelm were edged 21-19 in the opening set followed by a 21-13 loss in the second set. The other final result came from the 4s duo as Reese Johnson and Ella Myler were defeated by scores of 21-14, 21-14.
