Wayne State College women's soccer drops two road matches

One match remains for Wayne State College women's soccer as the 'Cats matched up against the top teams in the NSIC and #2 in DII.

The Wildcats began the weekend with a 4-1 loss at St. Cloud State on Oct. 31 (second in NSIC) followed by a 4-2 defeat at #2 Minnesota State-Mankato on Nov. 2. The Mavericks have now won their eighth NSIC regular season championship.

WSC has now dropped back-to-back matches falling to 6-7-4 (5-7-2 NSIC).

In the loss to St. Cloud State, the Huskies netted three first half goals and scored 54 seconds into the second half.

WSC's lone goal was recorded by freshman Briella Thompsen in the 88th minute off a penalty kick.

Thompsen's goal was the lone shot attempt on goal.

Sophomore Alexa Hofstetter allowed three goals and recorded one save in the first half. Freshman Katelyn Miller played the second half allowing one goal and stopping one shot.

St. Cloud State outshot WSC, 16-4 including 8-1 on goal.

During the contest at #2 Minnesota State-Mankato, the Mavericks built a 2-0 first half lead and netted two additional second half goals.

WSC's first goal was posted by senior Nevaeh James in the 80th minute (assisted by senior Paige Pemberton) followed by sophomore Morgan Mancuso in the 84th minute off a penalty kick.

Both James and Mancuso recorded two shots on goal with one each finding the back of the net.

Pemberton (one assist) and senior Alaina Sorensen both added two shot attempts with one on goal.

Hofstetter allowed two goals in the first half, recording four saves. Miller also allowed two goals in the second half while defending three shots.

The Mavericks outshot WSC, 28-10 including 11-8 on goal.

The Wayne State College women's soccer team will close out their regular season at Augustana on Nov. 6 at 3 p.m.
