With an upcoming trip to Florida for their National Training Center Spring Games approaching, the Wayne State College softball team closed out a four-game road series in Missouri.
Back at Cardinal Field in Liberty, Missouri, WSC competed against William Jewell College on Sunday.
Again, late run production led to a pair of William Jewell College victories of 4-0 and 3-2. Wayne State College has now dropped four straight falling to 7-7 as the Cardinals have won nine in a row improving to 10-8.
During Sunday's first game, neither team scored the opening three and a half innings until William Jewell College plated two runs in the home half of the fourth. Following a scoreless fifth, the Cardinals added two more runs in the sixth.
Final favored William Jewell College winning 4-0 despite Wayne State College winning the hit department, 6-4. Both teams recorded one errors.
Freshman Leach Chance and sophomore Taylor Coleman both doubled as singles came from sophomore Jordyn Klein, redshirt senior Mary Krystofiak, sophomore Lillie Timm and senior Hayley Murhpy.
Redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe (92 pitches) suffered the loss in four innings allowing two runs while striking out six batters, walking five and hitting two. Senior Grace Lucka (34) worked two innings allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out five batters, walking one and hitting one.
From the final outing of the four-game series, the Wildcats struck first with a pair of runs in the top half of the third inning. Freshman Maddie Scobee recorded a solo homerun while sophomore Emilee Marth drove in Chance.
William Jewell College cut into the deficit with a single run in the bottom of the fourth. Following a scoreless fifth, The Cardinals plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Final favored William Jewell College winning 3-2 despite Wayne State College winning the hit department, 7-1. Both teams again recorded one error.
Scobee finished with a solo homerun; Klein singled twice; Chance doubled and scored as sophomore Jordyn Rochholz doubled.
Marth singled and drove in a run as Krystofiak singled.
Coleman (90 pitches) suffered the loss in five innings allowing three runs (two earned) off one hit while striking out eight batters and walking four. Senior Samantha Felt (nine) worked an inning striking out and walking one batter each.
The Wayne State College softball team will next play 10 games in six days in Florida starting this Friday.
