Wayne State Jazz Band presenting concert Dec. 1

Swing, ragtime, a blues original, and holiday classics dazzle during the Wayne State College Jazz Band concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. The concert is free and open to the public and will also be livestreamed.

The concert opens with the familiar “Blue Skies” and “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” by Irving Berlin. “When I Fall in Love” by Victor Young highlights the vocals of Wayne State student Lexie Jackson of Gering, and the world premiere of “Wildcat Blues” debuts a Wayne State student composition by Jayden Carper of West Point.

The concert wraps up with “Winter Wonderland” by Felix Bernard and “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)” by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells. The Jazz Band is directed by Michael Genslinger, instructor of music at Wayne State.
