For the eighth consecutive week dating back to last season, Wayne State’s Michaela Dendinger was named the Northern Sun Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
This week, she has company, as Wayne State thrower Kade Kalkowski was named the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, giving Wayne State a sweep of the conference throwing awards for the week.
Kalkowski earned his award by way of hitting an NCAA provisional mark of 185 feet, 3 inches in the hammer throw to finish fourth at last week’s Concordia Invitational in Seward. His effort ranks 25th in NCAA Div. II.
Dendinger continued her dominance of the throwing events in the conference, taking first in the discus at Concordia with an NCAA provisional mark of 168-5. She also won the shot put (49-9 1/4) and was second in the hammer throw (192-6). She is ranked first in the hammer throw, second in the shot put and fifth in the discus in NCAA Div. II.
