Alex Brandt, Logan Moeller, Wyatt Nissen and Gabe Peitz from Wayne State College have been named to the College Sports Communicators 2023 Academic All-District Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams.
The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. Requirements for the honor include maintaining a minimum 3.50 grade-point average and competing in at least 50 percent of meets.
Brandt, a sophomore jumper, carried a 3.93 grade-point average majoring in business/finance and mathematics. He finished eighth in the javelin (146-7) at the NSIC Outdoor Championships this season and scored points in two events at the NSIC Indoor Championships, taking fourth in the high jump (6-4 3/4) and fifth in the heptathlon with 4,671 points.
Moeller, a sophomore jumper, majors in construction management and has a 3.69 GPA. He was a national qualifier in the long jump at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, placing 13th at 24 feet, 3 1/2 inches. Moeller was All-NSIC in the long jump, placing third, and was fifth in the triple jump. He set a new indoor school record in the long jump (24-0 3/4) to place fifth and took seventh in the triple jump.
Nissen is a sprinter and has a 3.73 GPA majoring in sport management. He ran a leg on the seventh-place 400-meter relay team at the NSIC Outdoor Championships and ran a season-best time of 23.01 seconds in the 200-meter dash at the USD Tuneup.
Peitz, a junior distance runner from Wakefield, maintains a 4.0 GPA majoring in chemistry and pre-med. He was named winner of the Elite 18 Award at last fall’s NSIC Cross Country Championships as the top scholar athlete at a NSIC championship event. Peitz was fifth in the 600-meter run (1:23.40) at the NSIC Indoor Championships while running a leg on the fifth-place distance medley relay team. At the NSIC Outdoor Championships, he was ninth in the 800-meter run (1:56.50) and ran a leg on the sixth-place 1,600-meter relay team.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-American ballot with All-America honors announced June 28.
