Wayne State sweeps team titles at Wildcat Classic

The Wayne State women dominated the field and the Wildcat men edged Dakota State to sweep the team titles at the Wildcat Classic cross country meet Saturday morning at Wayne Country Club.

Thanks to a 1-2 finish from Kim Lowman and Andrea Torres, the Wayne State wpmen easily outdistanced Mount Mary 27-48 to take the girls team title.

Lowman, a junior, crossed the line first in a field of 46 runners with a time of 20:35 on the 5,000-meter course with Torres, a freshman from Wayne, in second overall at 20:41. Freshman Allie Rosener was right behind in fourth overall at 20:56.

Other Wildcat runners included Molly McCartney (9th, 21:40), Amanda Mote (12th, 22:00), Josephine Peitz (14th, 22:18), Brianna Crouch (16th, 22:31), Marin Jetensky (17th, 22:40), Hannah Perkins (18th, 22:42) and Payton Birkel (34th, 25:38).

Wayne State won the team title with 27 points followed by Mount Marty College (48), Dakota State (54) and Peru State College (112). Southeast Community College-Beatrice also had runners compete in the meet.

In men’s action, Wayne State edged Dakota State 35-36 to take the team title, led by Dylan Kessler and Isaias Solorio, who placed third and fifth, respectively.

Kessler was the top Wildcat runner placing third overall out of a field of 41 runners with a time of 26:58 on the 8,000-meter course followed by Isaias Solorio in fifth at 27:47.

Wayne State had two other runners place in the top 10, as Bailey Peckham was seventh at 27:55 and Brock Hegarty crossed the line in ninth at 28:10.

Other Wildcat runners included: Bryce Holcomb (12th, 28:19), Jesus Arellano (16th, 29:04), Garrett Wells (17th, 29:10), Nathan Hiemer (21st, 29:31) and Jakob Kemper (28th, 30:02).

Following Wayne State and Dakota State in the team standings were Bellevue University at 80 points and Mount Marty College 85.  SCC-Beatrice also had runners compete in the meet.

Wayne State will compete again next Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Briar Cliff Invitational held in McCook Lake, S.D.
