Weekend competition continued for the Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track & field program with in-state action.
From Kearney, WSC competed in the Loper Invite on Saturday.
The Wayne State College women were led by senior Reilly Young and sophomore Kailee Kellum both recorded event wins while senior thrower Hailey Baker hit an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw.
Young had a winning mark of 158′ 11″ to take first in the discus and also added a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw at 162′ 5″.
Kellum posted a first-place finish in the triple jump with a top leap of 36′ 10 ½” and was third in the long jump at 17′ 10 ¼”.
Baker produced a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 179′ 0″.
Second-place finishes were recorded by freshmn Kaitlyn Bloomenrader in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.51 while freshman Reagan Murphy had a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:05.99 to go with a third in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.33 seconds.
Third-places in the meet went to sophomore Torrance Tso in the discus at 150′ 11″, sophomore Alyssa Folds in the 100-meter dash at 12.63 seconds and Zoey Holmes in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:24.07.
Other top finishers for the Wildcats saw freshman Lindsey Kneifl take fourth in the long jump (16′ 10 ¾”), junior Sydney Escritt was fourth in the 1,500-meter run at 5:13.18 and sophomore Meghan Cunningham was fifth in the 800-meter run at 2:26.41.
Sixth-place finishes came from Olivia Schwarzrock in the shot put (42′ 6″), Folds in the 200-meter dash (26.28), junior Jozlyn Barnes in the 800-meter run at 2:28.26 and freshman Madi McKie in the 1,500-meter run (5:18.94).
Freshman Jaryn Warecjka was seventh in the long jump (16′ 3 ¼”) and sophomore Jerika Bakenhus took eighth in the high jump clearing 5′ ¾”.
The Wayne State College men were led by senior Quentin Dreyer who won the 1,500-meter run and senior Daniel Elge posted an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw with a third-place finish.
Dreyer’s winning time in the 1,500-meter run was 3:55.53, a season-best.
Elge was one of three Wildcat throwers to place in the hammer throw and took third with an NCAA provisional mark of 193′ 11″.
Sophomore Jaxson Ninete came in fourth at 189′ 1″ while junior Alex Altman took eighth at 172′ 10″.
In the discus, junior Daylin Mallory took fourth at 155′ 2″ followed by Ninete in sixth (151′ 5″) and freshman Sameul Zazueta placing eighth at 148′ 7″. Mallory also had a fifth place finish in the shot put with a top mark of 51′ 1 ¾”.
Other top finishers for the Wildcat men were sophomore Elliott Nottlemann taking third in the high jump clearing 6′ 2 ¾” while junior Waylon Sherman was eighth in the 200-meter dash in 22.79 seconds.
WSC will also be represented in events during the Drake University Relays Thursday, April 24 – Sunday, April 26.
