Wayne State’s throwers highlighted the weekend’s effort for the Wildcats in the Concordia Invitational held over the weekend in Seward.
In women’s action, the 1,600-meter relay of Joan Jelimo, Molli Vasa, Marin Jetensky and Jordyn Pester crossed the line first in a time of 3:59.19 to account for the Wildcats’ only win of the day.
McKenzie Scheil posted a top mark of 182 feet, 6 inches to place second overall in the hammer throw. Her throw was an NCAA provisional mark and currently ranks sixth in NCAA Division II. She also posted a sixth-place mark in the shot put at 43-4 1/4.
Tia Jones also reached an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw taking seventh place at 172-0 and is now 19th nationally. She also finished fifth in the shot put at 44-10 3/4.
Kenzie Sullivan hit an NCAA provisional mark in the discus, taking third at 154-8, and was 10th in the shot put at 41-6 1/2.
Other top finishers for the Wildcats included Pester placing third in the 400-meter dash (56.38), Jelimo came in fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.51, freshman Allie Rosener took fifth in the 5,000-meter run at 21:21.39 and Mikayla Marvin was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 10-11 3/4.
Riana Noelle placed seventh in the triple jump (35-0 1/4), Cassidy Connell was ninth in the shot put (42-0 3/4), Andrea Torres took 10th in the 1,500-meter run (5:17.49) and Molli Vasa took 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.30).
In men’s action, Clay Kramper won the 200-meter dash and placed second in the 100-meter dash while throwers Cade Kalkowski and Dylan Kaup each hit NCAA provisional marks.
Kramper was the winner in the 200-meter dash in 21.90 seconds and placed second in the finals of the 100-meter dash at 10.81 seconds.
Kalkowski and Kaup both improved on their NCAA provisional marks in the hammer throw from last week’s meet at Fort Hays State and now rank in the top 10 nationally. Kaup recorded a mark of 200-0 to place third in the event and now sits sixth in NCAA Division II, while Kaup was right behind in fourth place at 199-6 and is seventh nationally.
Preston Davis recorded a third-place finish in the javelin at 159-1, Alvyns Alcenord took fourth in the 100-meter dash in 10.97 seconds with Justin Rohloff eighth at 11.51 seconds. Davis also finished third in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.28) and was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (56.37).
Mikhail Sands took third place in the long jump (23-0) with Ben Allen fourth in the shot put (53-0) and Jayle Hinkle fifth at 51-5 3/4.
In the 800-meter dash, Nathan Pearson was fifth in 1:57.57 followed by teammate Bryce Holcomb sixth (1:58.46) and Brock Hegarty 10th (2:00.21). Jack Doughty collected a fifth place finish in the 5,000-meter run (16:30.12) with Aaron English taking fifth in the high jump (6-1 1/2).
The Wildcat 1,600-meter relay team of Jacob Ladage, Bryce Holcomb, Pearson and Davis came in fifth place at 3:26.39.
Wayne State will compete in a pair of meets next weekend, with the Sioux City Relays on Friday and Saturday and the UNK Loper Invite in Kearney on Saturday.
