The Wayne State volleyball team went 1-1 on the weekend with a Friday win at MSU Moorhead and a Saturday loss to No. 11 Northern State.
On Friday, the Wildcats posted a 25-12, 25-23, 25-17 win at MSU Moorhead, led by senior Michaela Mestl’s second straight double-double effort with 13 kills and 18 digs. She also added three service aces in the win. Natalie Vondrak had 11 kills, eight digs and three blocks and Alyssa Frauendorfer had five blocks in the win. Haley Kauth had 18 digs and Megan Gebhardt had 37 assists.
On Saturday, the No. 4-ranked Wildcats fell to the No. 11 Wolves in Aberdeen, S.D., 25-17, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23. Mestl had 13 kills and 18 digs for her third straight double-double effort. Frauendorfer added 11 kills and three blocks, while Alex Opperman had a team-best seven blocks. Vondrak had 18 digs and Kauth picked up 16. Gebhardt had 38 assists and four blocks, and Bree Ackerman had three ace serves.
Wayne State (10-3, 2-3 NSIC) starts a five-game home stand on Friday with a 7 p.m. matchup against Minot State.
