Wayne State women’s rugby headed to NSCRO Final Four

The Wayne State women’s rugby team hosted the NSCRO Central Regional and came away as regional champions with a 38-10 win over Minnesota Moorhead Sunday at the Wayne Rugby Park.

On Saturday, Wayne State dominated Western State of Colorado in a 100-0 shutout to advance to Sunday’s Elite Eight matchup. Wayne State scored first and Moorhead responded, but the Wildcats scored three more tries and built a 24-5 halftime advantage. They added another score midway through the second half and maintained control of the game throughout the second half, finishing off the win to earn the trip to Atlanta for the NSCRO Final Four the first weekend in December.

Moorhead advanced to Sunday’s matchup with a 54-10 win over Colorado College.

In men’s action, Wayne State’s men beat John Brown University 28-17 on Saturday to move to the third round of the men’s NSCRO playoffs, then battled Iowa Central, dropping a 60-12 decision to the Tritons to end their playoff hopes while Iowa Central moved on to next spring's Sweet 16 action in Texas.
