Wayne students take part in Festival of Honor Bands

The Wayne State College campus was alive with music as they hosted the annual Festival of Honor Bands on Jan. 24.

"It was a day filled with incredible talent, hard work, and the unique energy that only a gathering of dedicated young musicians can bring," said Wayne 5-12 Band Director Alex Wieland.

Those selected from Wayne were: Dean Young (euphonium), Karla Wynia (French Horn), Molly Allemann (Flute), Benjamin Patefield (percussion), Aidan Bohnert (trumpet), Penelope Zavada-Cupp (flute), Sadi Fredrickson (clarinet), and Sarah Kuchta (clarinet). Lainey Meyer (bari saxophone) was also selected but was unable to attend as she was representing Wayne Girls Wrestling that day.

"There is something truly special about the "Honor Band" format. These students come together from different schools, meet for the first time in the morning, and by evening, they are performing as a unified ensemble. To witness them work together so seamlessly to create beautiful music in a group that will never meet again is a testament to the power of music education," Wieland said.
