Wayne teams both take third, LCC and Winside capture top marks

A third invitational for Wayne High girls and boys track & field in a week also showcased Winside and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

Back at Kern Track for a second straight Tuesday,  a total of eight programs enjoyed a nice day outdoors looking to increase their positions as the track & field season continues.

The Wayne High girls finished third with 89.33 points while the Blue Devil boys took third with 83.5 points. Wayne posted 29 personal bests utilizing the low winds.

Winside placed sixth in the girls division with 28.33 points as the Winside boys took eighth with 16 points.

LCC girls placed fifth with 60 points while the LCC boys finished fifth with 43 points.

In the girls division, Wisner-Pilger won the Wayne Invite with 140.33 points, Ponca followed in runner-up with 95 points, Wayne took third (89.33) Archbishop Began placed fourth (88) and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge rounded out the top five teams with 60 points.

The Wayne girls were led by junior Elle Powicki who won the 100-meter hurdles (16.12) and sophomore Addison Frank won the pole vault (9').

The Blue Devils claimed the top two spots in the 800-meter run led by junior Nyla Bolles in first (2:29.71) and freshman Alivia Kesting followed in second (2:29.88). Kesting also took silver in the high jump (4' 8").

Junior Lilyan Hurner took third in the 3200-meter run (13:34.91). Junior Jacen Haseman finished third in the long jump (15' 7 1/2") and third in the triple jump (29' 5"). Senior Rylin Hall placed third in the shot put (30' 9") as sophomore Lily Gubbels followed in fifth (30' 4 3/4").

Freshman Kamden Dobbins tied for fourth in the high jump (4' 6") and sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:06.19). Freshman Courtney Roeber also took fifth in the triple jump (27' 1/2").

All Blue Devil relays finished fourth. The 4x800 of Hurner, junior Kennasyn Blecke, freshman Anna Dutcher and junior Josie Ley (11:33.59), the 4x100 of Roeber, Clara Ankeny, freshman Ivette Ozuna and Frank (56.79) as did the 4x400 of Dutcher, Dobbins, freshman Karla Wynia and Kesting (4:42.71). 

The Winside girls were led by sophomore Hadleigh Schutt winning the discus (101' 8") along with a runner-up mark in the shot put (34').

Freshman Bridget Marotz tied for fourth in the high jump (4' 6") with 2.33 points and sophomore Katelyn Jaeger placed fifth in the 3200-meter run (14:06.2).

Sophomore Adrianna Miller took sixth in the 1600-meter run (6:33.74) as sophomore Ellie Topp finished sixth in the shot put (30').

In relays, the 4x400 of sophomore Aleah Bilstein, Miller, sophomore Hadley Sellin and Marotz took fifth (4:49.21) as did the 4x800 of Miller, Jaeger, Bilstein and Sellin (11:35.54). 

The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls were led by Tali Erwin with gold in the high jump (4' 10").

Faith Galvin placed runner-up in the 1600-meter run (5:55.53) and fourth during the 3200-meter run (13:50.51). Laney Folkers took second in the triple jump (30' 6").

Kate Tasler finished fourth in the 800-meter run (2:35.79).

Hattie McCorkindale took fifth in the 200-meter dash (29.7), Justice Olson placed fifth in the 1600-meter run (6:29.04).

Sixth place results were posted by Grace Galvin in the 100-meter dash (14.23), Ava Christiansen during the 3200-meter run (14:20.58).

In relay action, the 4x800 of Carlie Kvols, Justice Olson, Tyler Recob and Kate Tasler earned a silver medal (10:53.18), the 4x100 of McCorkindale, Taelynn Settje, Grace Galvin and Tali Erwin took third (56.47) as did the 4x400 of McCorkindale, Tyler Recob, Kate Tasler and Carlie Kvols (4:30.37). 

During the boys division, Archbishop Bergan won the Wayne Invite with 138 points, Boyd County followed in runner-up with 107 points, Wayne took third (83.5), Ponca placed fourth (74) and LCC rounded out the top five teams with 43 points. 

The Wayne boys were led by four runner-up results being sophomore Emmanuel Gonzalez in the 3200-meter run (11:04.93), freshman Angel Vargas Brizuela in both the 110-meter hurdles (17.52) and 300-meter hurdles (45.25) and junior Grant Maas during the pole vault (12' 6").

Sophomore Thomas Raymundo Bacillio placed third in the 800-meter run (2:13.92) followed by teammate junior Boden Dobbins in fourth (2:14.71). Junior Taven Ocampo finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (48.22).

Senior Kasen York captured a third place medal in the 1600-meter run (4:52.35) with junior Drew Miller right behind in fourth (4:58.36). Konnor Kai also took fourth in the triple jump (36').

Other points recorded in the 3200-meter run came from Landen Claussen (fourth - 11:36.68) and sophomore Lance Brink (sixth - 11:50.86).

Fifth place results were posted by Gabriel Armstrong in both the long jump (18' 2 1/2") and the 100-meter dash (12.34), sophomore Alvaro Archundia in the pole vault (9') and senior Ignacio Salemeron Diaz in the 200-meter dash (24.62). Sophomore Cole Zach tied for sixth in the high jump (5' 2").

In relays, the 4x100 of Vargas Brizuela, junior Jaxon Lindner, Armstrong and Kai finished fourth (47.86), the 4x800 of freshman Grady Maas, Brink, Ethan Samuelson and sophomore Cale Eischeid took fifth (10:13.2) as did the 4x400 of sophomore Daevin Casarrubias, Denzel Ibarra, freshman Kyler Parker and freshman Trecyn Ocampo (4:00.96). 

Winside boys were led by junior Caleb Offner winning the shot put (52' 7 1/2") and a third pace mark in the discus (127' 3"). 

The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys were led by event wins from Drey Puppe in the 110-meter hurdles (14.68) and the 300-meter hurdles (42.46). He also took runner-up in the high jump (6').

Ian Sohler placed fifth in the triple jump (35' 11 1/2") followed by teammate Dayton Korth (35' 8").

Jaylen Carpenter took fifth in the shot put (43' 1/2").

Weston Patefield collected a sixth place medal during the pole vault (9').

In relays, the 4x800 of Carter Korth, Hunter Benson, Shane Langford and Sebastian Van Drongelen finished third (9:51.37), the 4x100 of Nathan Boysen, Weston Patefield, Hunter Benson and Ian Sohler placed fifth (51.23) and the 4x400 of Ian Sohler, Carter Korth, Hunter Benson and Josiah Tasler took sixth (4:03.8).

The Winside girls and boys will be off until the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Invite on Tuesday, April 22.
