Wayne teams on opposite ends of run-rule decisions

The Wayne American Legion baseball teams hosted Tekamah-Herman in Ralph Bishop League action Friday, with the Juinors losing and the Seniors winning in games decided by the eight-run rule.

In the opener, the Juniors committed nine errors and struggled defensively, allowing the visitors to come away with a 17-9 win.

All eight of Tekamah-Herman’s runs in the second and third innings were unearned, and they blew the game open with a nine-run fourth inning to come away with the win.

Wayne was limited to four hits as they fell to 7-5 on the season. Trevor DeBoer had two hits and an RBI and Reid Korth doubled and scored a run. Brock Hopkins and Kaleb Anderson each had two RBI’s. DeBoer took the loss on the mound.

In the Seniors game, Wayne got solid pitching from Isaac Camarena and the bats cranked out nine hits to help Wayne post a 12-2 win and improve to 6-1 on the season.

Wayne batted around in the second inning, scoring six runs. Caden Korth and Tyler Lutt had RBI singles and Mason Lee had a sacrifice fly to highlight the big inning.

Wayne got on the board in the first on a two-run double by Tucker Nichols, who had a big night by going 3-for-3 with four RBI’s.

Lee and Korth both had two hits and an RBI, and Brennen O’Reilly scored twice and had an RBI in the win. Camarena struck out seven and scattered three hits in the win.

The Wayne American Legion teams play in the Wood Bat Tournament Saturday and Sunday at Hank Overin Field. Wayne teams play games at 12 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., with action continuing Sunday and the finals at Eaton Field in Wakefield.
