Wayne teams perform well at Elkhorn meet

The Wayne High track and field teams came away with some solid performances against Class A and Class B competition Thursday at the Kruger May Invitational in Elkhorn.

The Wayne girls finished fifth out of 11 teams and had two winners on the day. Jenna Trenhaile won the discus with a throw of 123 feet, 11 inches, and Kylie Hammer took the long jump with a best mark of 17-5 3/4. Both also finished high in other events, with Hammer taking second in the triple jump and fifth in the 200, Trenhaile finishing third in the shot put.

The 3,200-meter relay team placed third and the 1,600-meter relay team was second. Gabi Meyer and Allison Claussen also won individual medals, finishing fifth in the 800 and shot put, respectively.

In boys action, Grayson McBride earned three medals, including a win in the long jump to help Wayne to a sixth-place finish. He also took second in the high jump and was part of a three-medal effort with a second in the triple jump.

Nolan Reynolds finished second in the pole vault, Cody Rogers was second in the triple jump, Will Anderson was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, Jack Evetovich was fifth in the high jump, Mason Lee took sixth in the triple jump and the 1,600-meter relay team finished sixth.

Next action for Wayne is Tuesday at the Schuyler Invitational.
